Green Peas Upma


Upma or Uppuma or Uppittu is a common South Indian and Sri Lankan It’s very delicious breakfast dish, cooked as a thick porridge from dry roasted semolina. Upma has cross the regional boundaries and become favorite in all parts of India. Fresh green winter peas are my pick today which goes very well with this dish adding rich colors and awesome deliciousness. Today I am taking this to our Potluck Party Cyber Style. I am sure as this dish is enjoyed by me and family so will it be enjoyed by all my friends.

Cooking time 10 minutes
Serves  2 to 3

Ingredients:
1 cup suji / wheat rava/ semolina
½ cup green peas 
1 onion chopped 
1 tsp finely chopped ginger
5 to 6 curry leaves
½  tsp mustard seed
1 tsp chopped green chilly
1 tbsp chopped tomatoes seed less 
1 tbsp  finely grated  coconut 
1 tbsp crushed peanuts (optional)
a pinch of asafetida
½  tsp sugar
1 tbsp oil / ghee
salt to taste  
1 tbsp chopped  fresh coriander  
1 tsp lemon juice
Methods of Cooking Slightly fry the suji and keep aside. Now heat oil/ ghee in a pan add mustard seed . As the seed starts to crackle then add curry leaves, asafetida, green chili, chopped onion and ginger. Fry till onions are translucent. Add green peas, grated coconut and peanuts (if using.) and chopped tomatoes. Now add the slightly fried suji. Add salt and sugar and mix well. Now add 2 cups of boiling water. Mix well stirring continuously so that no lumps are formed. And cook for some time until suji is fully cooked. Now garnish with chopped coriander and sprinkle lemon juice. Serve hot.
