Ilish Manch Bhapa


This is a delicious authentic Bengali preparation of steamed Hilsa fish coated with mustard paste.This is called ilish manch bhapa because it is cooked in steam and not in direct heat. Ilish manch bhapa is a delicious preparation from Bengal India.

Ingredients
4 to 5 steak size piece of hilsa fish
1 heaping tbsp of mustard paste
1/2 tsp of green chilly paste
1 tsp of poppy seed paste
1tbsp of yogurt
1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
4 green chilly silted
2 to 3 tbsp of mustard oil
1/4 tsp of sugar
salt to taste



Preparation Procedure

Take bowl then on it mix all the ingredients except the whole green chilly and the fish. Now with that spice mix marinate the fish, add the whole green chilly and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. Now place a banana leaves in a bowl and then on it place the marinated fish, you can put it in your steamer and cook for 10 to 15 minutes or till it is done. Those who want to use pressure cooker, they can place a banana leaves on a steel tiffin box then on it place the marinated fish now close the lid of the tiffin box tightly and then add some water in the cooker then put the tiffin box in it and pressure cook it for 2 to 3 whistle then give 5 minutes standing time. Serve hot ilish manch bhapa with  steaming hot rice.
