Bengali’s love fish…I think after cat’s if anyone in the whole world love fish so much they are Bengalis…=P =D. You will get million of fish recipes in Bengal. Every other house will come with something new and unique recipe. My house is no exception. Today I am going to share with you an age old recipe and a new recipe back to back….Mourala Maanch bhaja (white bait fry) and Badhakopi diye Bhetki maanch (bhetki fish cooked in cabbage). So here comes the recipes. Give it a try and relish some delicious fish recipes in Bengali style.

Mourala Maanch Bhaja
Preparation time : 10 minutes Cooking time : 15 minutes Serves : 4 to 5 Ingredients : 300 grms mourala maanch ( white bait) ½ tsp turmeric powder ¼ tsp red chilly powder 2 pinch chat masala salt to taste Mustard oil for deep frying Methods Of CookingMourala manch ( white bait is a very soft tiny size fish but very delicious when fried.Clean the fish well. Rub the fish with turmeric, salt and red chilly powder. Keep aside for 10 minutes. Now heat oil. Now add marinated fish. Fry till golden and crisp. Serve in a plate and then sprinkle little chat masala on it. Serve mourala maanch bhaja as starter to a full course lunch with ghee or have it with dal ( lentil soup) chopped onion and green chilly with hot steamed rice.
Bhadhakopi Diye Bhetki Maanch
Preparation time : 15 minutes Cooking time : 20 minutes Serve : 4 to 5 Ingredients: 4 to 5 big steak size pieces 1 cup shredded cabbage 1 bay leaves 1 green cardamom ½ cinnamon 3 to 4 all spices 2 to 3 clove 1 big onion finely sliced 1 tomato sliced 1 tsp red chilly powder or to taste ½ tsp turmeric powder ½ tsp garam masala ½ tsp ghee 4 tbsp oil salt to taste Methods of CookingTake the fish pieces. Rub them with salt and turmeric powder. Heat oil in a pan. Now fry the fish pieces till light golden both side. Now keep aside those fried fishes. In that oil add bay leaves, green cardamom, cinnamon,all spice, clove. Then add the onion sliced. Fry till golden brown. Then add tomato slices and red chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt. Fry till the tomatoes are mushy. Then add shredded cabbage. Mix well. Cover and cook stirring occasionally till they are medium soft. Then add the fried fish. Mix with soft hand. Sprinkle little water and cook till it is dry. Add ghee and garam masala powder. Mix well. Put off the flame. Cover and give 10 minutes standing time before serving. Serve with hot steamed rice.
